Monkey on My Shoulder

William Somero - Gospel

Released March 17, 2025

Grok Review

This delightful and whimsical song is a playful serenade from a grandparent to their granddaughter, spinning a tale of a cheeky monkey perched on their shoulder. With its catchy, repetitive lyrics, the tune introduces Gus, a lively little monkey who tugs at hair and fills the air with joyful "hootin and hollerin." The melody’s upbeat tempo and sing-along style invites others to join in, creating a shared adventure where imagination runs wild. It’s a sweet, silly moment of bonding, wrapped in a tune that celebrates the joy of a grand parent's special connection with a grand child.

Lyrics

There's a monkey on my shoulder and he's yanking on my hair
There's a monkey on my shoulder and he shouldn't be there
There's a monkey on my shoulder hootin and hollerin
There's a monkey on my shoulder and I want to get rid of him

There's a monkey on my shoulder and he's making a fuss
There's a monkey on my shoulder and his name is Gus
There's a monkey on my shoulder hootin and hollerin
There's a monkey on my shoulder and I want to get rid of him

There's a monkey on my shoulder, I don't know what to do
There's a monkey on my shoulder and he looks like you
There's a monkey on my shoulder hootin and hollerin
There's a monkey on my shoulder and I want to get rid of him

There's a monkey on my shoulder, I don't know what to do
There's a monkey on my shoulder and he looks like you
There's a monkey on my shoulder hootin and hollerin
