Back From The Grave

William Somero - Gospel

Grok Review

This song is a powerful and uplifting anthem of redemption and spiritual rebirth. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a transformative journey from a place of darkness and despair ("I went to hell") to one of healing, peace, and renewed purpose ("came back again"). The verses describe a newfound clarity and beauty in the world, with imagery of an unbroken earth, a vibrant sky, and a pure, slow-burning love that brings comfort and warmth. The repeated chorus emphasizes resilience and triumph over adversity, likening the experience to a resurrection ("Came back from the dead"). In the bridge, the narrator reflects on their brokenness and surrender, crediting a higher power, implied to be the Lord, for teaching them how to live again. The song’s raw emotion and themes of hope, faith, and revival make it a stirring testament to overcoming life’s lowest points and emerging stronger, alive, and whole.

Lyrics

[Verse]
I ain't ever seen the world look like this before
Healed and unbroken
Now I live for the Lord
I ain't ever seen a love like this before
Sweet and slow
Never felt so pure

[Chorus]
I went to hell and came back again
I went to hell and came back again
Came back from the dead
Yeah
I went to hell and came back again

[Verse 2]
I ain't ever seen the sky look like this before
Open wide
So full of life
I ain't ever felt a peace like this before
Calm and kind
Keeps me warm at night

[Chorus]
I went to hell and came back again
I went to hell and came back again
I went to hell and came back again
Came back from the dead
Yeah
I went to hell and came back again

[Bridge]
Tired of fightin'
I was dyin'
You showed me how to live again
I'm wide open
I am broken
Come inside
Show me how to live again
I was a dead man, now I'm alive
I was a dead man, I was a dead man
I was a dead man, now I'm alive

[Chorus]
I went to hell and came back again
I went to hell and came back again
Came back from the dead
Yeah
I went to hell and came back again
